FNX Participações Group joins Enersim as part of its ESG agenda

The measure aims to align with SDG 7 and 13, related to clean energy consumption and combating global warming

The FNX Participações group joined Enersim, a clean and sustainable energy manager, as a partner to address one of the topics on the group's ESG agenda.

ESG is an acronym that refers to the integration of economic value generation with a focus on environmental, social, and corporate governance issues by companies. In practice, it is a way to demonstrate responsibility and commitment to the market in which the company operates, as well as to its consumers, suppliers, employees, and investors.

Matheus Stevanin, the sustainability analyst at FNX, explains that this measure aligns with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) number 7 (Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and clean energy for all) and 13 (Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts), as adopted during the United Nations Summit on Sustainable Development in September 2015.

"We have a well-defined ESG agenda with sustainability pillars and indicators that we monitor monthly. Within this planning, one of the key points on our ESG action radar was to initiate the transition of our energy matrix with the objective of reducing our carbon footprint and contributing to sustainable development. The decision to start this transition of our energy matrix with Enersim was based on this and aligned with the fact that the solutions offered by the company meet our needs and expectations, enhancing our positive impact in this aspect of the energy transition through photovoltaic energy," says Stevanin.

The analyst adds that joining Enersim was a strategic decision and benefits all business partners.

"We believe that it is possible to conduct business responsibly, generating value for all our stakeholders, and developing the environmental, social, and corporate governance axes. Besides being an ethical and moral commitment, the ESG agenda is now a matter of business strategy. When we base our actions on ESG pillars, we create a competitive advantage, as we can better adapt to changes. In the long term, incorporating sustainability into our strategy is part of the continuity of our business," Stevanin explains.

The support provided by Enersim, from the consultant's visit to the post-adoption support, made a significant difference in the Group's decision to remain with the energy management company. "From the moment Artur Vianna, the accredited consultant, came to FNX's headquarters to present the solutions, to the moment we started receiving the first invoices, all the support provided was always quick and effective. Enersim, with its solutions, is an important ally for companies seeking to align their agenda with sustainable development," praises Matheus.

Over the past years, the FNX Group has initiated its ESG agenda and developed various actions and projects. Fênix DTVM was the first company in the sector to become a signatory of the UN Global Compact, supporting initiatives such as the elimination of mercury from the gold production process, a significant milestone for responsible mining in the country.

Another interesting project worth highlighting is the partnership with the Swiss Better Gold Association, a Swiss association that aims to certify and reward mines that follow established standards on sustainability and ESG. With this financial reward, mines can invest in environmental and social projects in the community in which they operate.
In the last year, the FNX Group's ESG area developed its strategy, creating its materiality matrix and creating ESG indicators. The focus is now on measuring and offsetting the carbon footprint, which will start to happen in July 2023.

With this compensation through carbon credits, they seek not only to offset emissions, but also to measure and create a mitigation plan for greenhouse gas emissions.
